Six Flags White Water

Image
It's the last 2 weekends of the summer season at Six Flags White Water so we made sure to go for one last visit last Sunday. We went to church first, grabbed a quick lunch then drove to the waterpark. There were fewer people compared to our first visit so it was more pleasant. Sharing this short video from our fun afternoon.

Fernbank Science Center

After the hike at Fernbank Forest, we checked out the Fernbank Science Center which was less than 10 minutes away. They have a variety of exhibits - wildlife, a macro photography gallery, live reptiles, the Apollo 6 command module, among others. The place wasn't too big so it didn't take long to explore everything. T-Rex skull replica Live bee colony Assembling carbon atoms

Hiking at Fernbank Forest

Image
Last Saturday, we went on a hike at Fernbank Forest. The trail starts at Fernbank Museum, so this is the second Saturday in a row that we've spent at Fernbank. It was refreshingly cool in the forest so we took our time on the trail. And some pictures back at Fernbank Museum.

Wild Woods Preview at Fernbank Museum

Image
I have been keeping myself posted on the progress of Wild Woods, the new outdoor expansion of Fernbank Museum. Finally, the notification came for the members' preview last weekend. We originally planned to watch black belt testing to support students and teachers from Neil's karate school but this was more appealing. As Neil put it, watching vs. doing. It turned out to be a fun afternoon. We love Wild Woods. Lots to explore and it has a direct path to the Fernbank Forest, which we didn't get to hike this time because we watched both 'A Beautiful Planet' and 'Dinosaurs Alive' on IMAX. They were also free for the weekend so we took advantage. Neil said the dinosaurs movie was the best part. And Ela watched, too. So she has officially seen her first movie. Here are some photos from our fun afternoon. Opening day of World's Largest Dinosaurs exhibit. IMAX selfie

*52 weeks is my project to take and post photos of the kids every week. These pictures were taken at the church playground after the service. We let the kiddos play for a little bit, then go for lunch and groceries. Our Sundays are fairly typical like that.

Sope Creek Trail

Image
For Labor Day holiday, we decided to go on a hike at Sope Creek. Our first hike here  was during winter, so going on a different season will be like a new experience. Visitors from Manila joined us on this hike so we were a big group. We met at their hotel and arrived at the trail head around 10:30AM. Parking was full so we had to wait 10-15 minutes for spots to open up.  We encountered many families and folks with pets, enjoying the creek. The water was a lot calmer and shallower than in winter. So inviting so we had to get in. Note to self: bring swim clothes for the kiddos next time. Richard initially wanted to stay behind because Ela is now heavier and carrying her for a long stretch might hurt his back. We've always had her infront when using the baby carrier but he tried back carry this time. It worked. Daddy's back was fine.=)
