Brunch at Egg Harbor Cafe

Image
We had brunch at Egg Harbor Cafe after church last week. This place is really popular especially during the weekends. They have chalk for kids to play with while waiting. I just noticed that Neil wrote 'Star Wars The Force Awakens' when I reviewed the pictures.=) We ordered one of the skillets, pancakes, banana bread toast and green eggs and ham for Neil. It's my third time to eat here and food is always good. Just stay away from the hot chocolate because it's too sweet. After brunch, we checked out a consignment store for baby things and bought shoes, a toy and book for Ela. Love family time!

Brunch at Stone Soup Kitchen

Image
We had brunch at Stone Soup Kitchen last Sunday.  It's more than 20 minutes away, which we don't typically do for brunch but there a very good reason this time.  We met Doc Joey, a good friend from Intel. We haven't seen him for many years and he happened to be driving by Atlanta so we arranged to meet. He was taking I20 so I looked for a restaurants close to this route on Yelp. There were a lot of options around the area, which I didn't expect because it looked like a quiet residential area. If you're not actively looking, it's easy to miss this place. Parking is on both sides of the street and we were lucky that someone was about to leave and we snagged a spot right across the restaurant. Many people were standing by for tables. We were advised that the wait would be ~25 minutes.  When Rich followed up, it looked like another group got our table, so we had to wait a bit more. The food was good and serving size was enough for one person. Not too much. I l...

Manila Visitors + Restaurants Roundup

Image
Because we have a very small Filipino community here, we're always excited to have visitors from Manila and get together over food. There have been quite a few lately and many of them for longer than a week. Here's a roundup from the recent months. Brunch at First Watch brunch with Kring, Kee and Erle. Erle's in Atlanta for summer internship and Kee and Kring are here to attend the RM All-Team Meeting . This was on Fathers' Day and they gave the daddies small packs of ground coffee. Dinner at Shoya Izakaya with the same people plus Mike L. Mike's here for more than 2 months. I've been looking for a good ramen place and thought this would be a good candidate but it's not likely that we'll go back because Rich did not like the ambience. The search continues. Dinner at Shane's Rib Shack  with Mike SB and Joy. Dinner at Mellow Mushroom to celebrate the birthdays of Erle and Joy. Adi and Twinkle are also here. Dinner at La M...

Bunch of Brunch

Image
I've noticed that weekend brunch is quite the thing here. I guess people take advantage of the weekend to get family or friends together and enjoy breakfast out. Because we cook and eat at home most of the time, it's a treat to go for brunch. Atlanta has a lot of good places to choose from and this is a roundup of the ones we've tried so far. IHOP . We had breakfast here after getting the car from the dealership last year. Buttermilk Kitchen . We had a sendoff for friends who were going back to the Philippines. Brio . Venue of the surprise baby shower earlier this year. Another Broken Egg Cafe . This place is less than 5 minutes drive from the apartment but we've only been here once and just recently. Our server was Filipino so we chatted with her for a bit. First Watch . With officemates visiting from Manila. Pancake > face

Savannah Eats!

Image
Here are the restaurants we ate at in Savannah. We had lunch on Saturday at Flying Monk Noodle House . We passed by this place during the walking tour and decided to go back for lunch because we were craving hot soup. There was a short queue outside but we didn't have to wait long. Great food and the service was fast. We had dinner at The Lady and Sons , Paula Deen's restaurant.. Its's a popular tourist stop in Savannah so we thought it warranted a visit. The restaurant has mixed reviews so I didn't expect much but it turned out ok. Our reservation was for 8PM and we decided to do the buffet so we don't have to wait long. The fried chicken was great. On Sunday, we had lunch at The District . We ordered sandwiches, which were all good. The mushroom soup is one of the best I've tried. The only complaint we have is that they sooo long to serve the food. Last but not the least is Leopold's Ice Cream . It's also an institution in S...
