Filipino Friday 1: Introductions

Image
The 2nd Filipino Reader Conference is happening on August 18 at the Filipinas Heritage Library.  I did not know about this event last but I'm really glad to have read about it early enough from OMFLit's Facebook page.  There's such a thing? Cool! Fillipino Friday is a meme done in the weeks leading up to ReaderCon and this week's topic is Introductions . Introductions. As with every start of a weekly meme, we need to know a bit about you! Talk about your top 3-5 (or more!) favorite books of all time, the genres you read and would never read, the books that surprised you this year. You can also talk about how you became a reader and why you love it so much! And finally, if you were in the ReaderCon last year, talk about your experience too! If you weren’t there, but you’re planning to go this year, then what do you expect for the upcoming ReaderCon? About me :  A few words -- Christian, wife, mom to a 4-year old boy, industrial engineer, operations research analy

God of Carnage

Image
Richard and I watched the play God of Carnage last Sunday at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater in RCBC.  It's produced by Atlantis, the same company that brought us Rock of Ages, which we saw last month .  I wanted to see this play primarily because Lea Salonga is in it and this would be my first time to see her perform live.   Thank you Rich for supporting my bisyo. God of Carnage has one scene and one act.  The entire play takes place in the living room where two sets of parents are try to talk through the situation where the one son hit and injured the other son's face with a stick.  It's an awkward scenario and you can feel the tension in the scene.   But before the evening ends, all civility flies out the window and chaos ensues.  There is puking, drinking, shouting, insulting, blaming, arguing and lots of crying. God of Carnage was promoted as a comedy and there were funny parts for sure but to me, it had a lot of serious undertones as well.  I was a little exha

Kanin Club - Friday Lunch Out

Image
Last Friday, I joined some officemates for lunch out at Kanin Club in Ayala Triangle.  I usually eat at home and am rarely early enough to be at the office for lunch but I made an exception just because this has not happened in a while.  Ayala Triangle is one of my favorite places in Makati.  I love the greenery.   It was a payday Friday and naturally a lot of people were waiting for seats at the restaurants. Food! This is Sinangag na Sinigang - rice which tastes like sinigang. I hope they don't take down the giant flag before I am able to take Neil to see it.

OkayOkay.Com

Okay okay, I don't recall how I found out about OkayOkay.com but it's one of the more interesting deal sites our there.  They specialize more on products and not food or travel deals.  So far, I have bought the following from them: packing cubes (2), luggage strap (2), water gallon cover organizer, and just recently a passport holder, camera pouch and cellphone case. http://www.okayokay.com/ Delivered yesterday. Unboxed. Who's ready to go on a trip?=) And if you're curious, this is the water gallon cover organizer. I'm sure that if you go to the site, you can find a thing or two that you would be tempted to buy and not just for personal use but great for gifts as well.  Exercise caution.=) So far, I've had hassle-free transactions with OkayOkay.  They deliver the products (most of them for free or with very minimal fee) and are very prompt with delivery.  Their commitment for the last three items I bought was July 16 - 30 and I got mine

Neil is 4!

Image
The most important event from last weekend was Neil's birthday.  Our little boy turned 4 last Saturday!=) We had a few friends join us for lunch at the condo and then we all went to Seriland at the Manila Ocean Park. I did a little decorating the night before and this greeted the boy when he woke up.=) Richard, Neil and I went to the Salcedo Park, North Park and Max's to buy food for lunch. Food! Cake courtesy of the Hintos. After lunch, we let the kids play a little bit at the playground. Then we were off to Seriland. Seriland is located in the second level of the Manila Ocean Park building.  We used the vouchers I bought months ago.  Attractions include Mirror Maze, 3D Theater, Trick Art Museum and a play area. We spent the most time at the Trick Art Museum, then let the kids play some more at the play area. Trampoline + Neil = Happy He didn't like the sound from this contraption at the start b
