Celebrating Service

No two companies are alike.  I could probably not have picked two employers as different as Intel and IHG in terms of industry.  Intel does high-technology manufacturing while IHG is in the business of hospitality.  There are things one does better than the other but both have really strong company culture and are leading in their own industries.  And both made it to Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2012.

One thing that I appreciate in IHG is Celebrate Service Week.  It's an annual week-long company-wide event focused on celebrating the everyone's contributions.  We take the time to appreciate colleagues through different activities like dress-down days, contests, programs, free food, tokens, etc.  It's a really great practice to take employees out of their usual work days and have (more) fun.

A recap of the week, just the ones that I was involved in.

Monday: Work area decorating contest. We started decorating on Friday and I was able to help a little bit before needing to leave at 1PM.  I shared Quadratinis with my team, one of my favorite snacks.=)

Tuesday:  Tokens were given out to the team.  Analytics token #1: Shoe bag, blanket, Fish book.  RM token #2 (shipped all the way from Atlanta): 3 books and a key chain in a reusable bag.

June birthday celebration.  Technically, this is not part of CS Week but June celebrators thought it was the perfect time to treat everyone to dinner.

Thursday: Performed in public for Managers' Night.  This is something I haven't done since 3rd year college (dorm presentation).  Gaah!  We practiced on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and had a final rehearsal on this day.  Apparently, this is one of the things managers are expected to do. Sana na-entertain naman sila. Hehe.=)

Great week!
