Savannah, GA - Historic District

From the opening scene of Forrest Gump

Sometime in late January, Ruby and Joel (ex-Intel friends) had an exchange in Facebook about meeting up in Savannah. I asked if they meant Savannah, Georgia which is within driving distance from us. We ended up meeting there last weekend.=)

We left Friday afternoon, right after picking Neil up from school. We arrived in Savannah past 7PM and had a good rest before exploring the city the following day.

Savannah is Georgia's oldest city. It's a charming city with a very well-maintained historic district. We did the walking tour Saturday morning and our guide said Savannah has the second largest tourism volume per capita in the US and I can see why. There are many public squares/parks with old oak trees and beautiful architecture everywhere.

I found out about the free walking tour from Trip Advisor. Since we were meeting Joel and Ruby in the afternoon, we decided to do this in the morning. The tour started at Johnson Square (close to the river) and stops at all the squares down to Forsyth Park.  It's always great to hear about a place from a local. Chris gave us historical tidbits, stories about the movies filmed in Savannah, the architecture and famous people. Best free tour I've experienced so far. We tipped, of course.=)
