Two days after Neil's 9th birthday, we sent him off on his first sleepaway camp. It was for four nights, from Sunday to Thursday, organized by our church. The kids needed to have finished 3rd grade before they can go. We asked Neil if he was interested and he said yes, eventually. It took a few days of encouragement and reassurance that he would receive help if needed. I think we got the last spot because we took our time to decide. He was both excited and anxious on dropoff day. As I was. But we let him go and trusted that he will be in good hands. The camp was in Ocoee, TN and the parents were warned that there might be very few updates because of reception issues in the mountains.
