Strong is Beautiful

Image
I rarely do this kind of blog post but I just like this campaign by the WTA.  Tennis is my favorite sport to watch and the combination of good message + athletes just needs to be shared. I like this campaign and I support the message. Credit: All photos from the WTA website . Non-tennis guys are in on it, too. =) Check out this and this for more tennis stars, actors, musicians and celebrities who are supporting the campaign.

We Are All Weird by Seth Godin

Image
I've read only one of Seth Godin's books before this ( Purple Cow , which I really liked) but I hope to get my hands on more of his work.  I first heard of We Are All Weird from Pastor Dennis' blog .  He recommended the Kindle version which was reasonably priced at $4.99.  I thought it was a good time to test reading a whole book using the iPad and also try the purchasing process from Amazon.  Both went pretty well.=) Like most of Godin's books, this one is about marketing in the modern age.  We are living in times where we are able to delve really deep into our interests/hobbies however obscure or weird.  And to Godin, the smart companies are those that embrace the weirdness, those that specialize rather than mass market, that that cater to a very small but loyal niche.  It's a very short book which I read in one sitting (ok, bio and food break in between) also because Seth Godin's writing is simple and straightforward.  The main topic i...

Sendong Update Newsletter

Image
I worked on a project a few weeks ago.  Our family decided to create a newsletter to give an update about the house and Iligan, months after Sendong.   Last December, our house was flooded up to the roof and it was a trying time for the family in all aspects.  But we received a lot of help and those have come a long way towards rehabilitation.  Aside from providing the updates, we also wanted to again express our gratitude to those who helped. This was a family project.  I got pictures from Iligan, the recollection text from Em and feedback from family.  I just felt it was ironic that I worked on this while Habagat battered Manila.  But it put things in perspective as well - that the present situation may be very disheartening but they can and will get better. To everyone who helped us months ago, this is for you. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8WPSIPeKtSJMXRYTWpjXzVoRTg/edit A few photos used in the newsletter. Before After ...

Home aviary visit

Image
I have a several posts coming up but for the meantime, I'm sharing these photos from 2 weeks ago.  We visited the house of Richard's officemate in Mandaluyong.  He showed us his aviary and let Neil/Rich pet a few birds.  He also talked to us about different varieties, how he started this hobby, participating in bird shows, taking care of the birds, etc.  Interesting! A chick!

Filipino Friday 5: Celebrating the Best

Image
It's the last week of Filipino Friday, which means we're one day away from this year's Filipino Reader Conference. Celebrating the Best . In honor of the first Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards, let’s talk about our favorites for this year. What are your favorite books in 2012 so far? Have you read any awesome Filipino books in the year? If yes, make sure to include them in your list! I was very deliberate about my reading choices this year and because of this, I can say that I love all of my 2012 books!  It's tough to pick a favorite but if I have to, I'd say The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and The Introvert Advantage by Marti Olsen Laney . I was about to write that I did not read any Filipino books this year but I remembered the children's books I bought for Neil. =)   Si Pilong Patago-tago was his favorite for some time. Sunday Fun-day

Image
Last Sunday was place-hopping day.  We went to church at 8 in the morning, hung out at the playground near BGC, went to Tiendesitas to look at animals, had lunch at Serye in Eastwood , went back to the condo to rest, then to Power Plant mall in the evening. New playground near Active Fun. At the Pet Village, Tiendesitas. Grocery shopping at Rustan's.  I love these little carts. Neil noticed this mirror overhead. We looked at all the paintings on exhibit. Browsed at National Bookstore. Enjoyed this book. It was raining during the drive home.

Serye at Eastwood

Image
We had lunch at Serye in Eastwood last Sunday.  Richard has been here several times because it's close to his workplace.  I, on the other hand, was a first timer.  Before we get to the pictures, I would just like to say that everything we ordered tasted really good, including the drinks and dessert.  I think they're pricier than Dencio's or Gerry's but we had vouchers for this meal so it was a great deal. Buko pandan shake and green mango shake Laing Chicken + pansit meal Salmon and pork barbecue Dessert. Yum! Food for four.  We took home practically all of the chicken meal and some laing.

Saturday at the Ayala Triangle

After spending time at the Filipinas Heritage Library , we decided to have lunch at the Ayala Triangle.   Free to run! Waiting for our food at BonChon Chicken. Dessert at Caramia @ Amici.  They had an anniversary promo on gelato. I love family time.=)
