Not So Recent Books

Between the January list and In A Different Key , I actually read a few books that I forgot to do a post on. Here they are. #6   The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer . This follows the lives of six people who met while they were teenagers at an art camp. From Goodreads:  The friendships endure and even prosper, but also underscore the differences in their fates, in what their talents have become and the shapes their lives have taken. The Interestings explores the meaning of talent; the nature of envy; the roles of class, art, money, and power; and how all of it can shift and tilt precipitously over the course of a friendship and a life. #7   Why Not Me by Mindy Kaling . This is a follow up to  Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?  Mindy is funny and shares her experiences in an honest and unapologetic voice. From Goodreads: Mindy turns the anxieties, the glamour, and the celebrations of her second coming-of-age into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of ess...

Zoo Atlanta

Image
After Neil's karate tournament last Saturday, we went to Zoo Atlanta with Anne, making use of our family annual pass. We did not see much during our previous visit because we watched the shows. We covered more ground this time.  Lion taking shelter from the rain. Feeding the parakeets. Feeding the giraffe. Fascinated by the little turtles. Nap time! Stars of the zoo. They were indoors on this day because it was too hot outside. Close encounter with the Ninja Turtles. Splash pad fun! Fun day!

Neil's First Karate Tournament

Image
Neil competed in his first karate tournament last week! He got first place in sparring, second in form and weapons and third in combat sparring. His bracket was small but we still think it's an achievement! I enjoyed watching him compete, do his best on all the events and get rewarded for all his hard work. And he had fun, too. Great way to spend a weekend morning.

PDK Airshow

Image
Last Saturday we went to see the Good Neighbor Day Airshow at the Peachtree DeKalb airport. The event was from 12-5PM. We arrived around 2:30 and stayed for about two hours. It was bright and sunny but also breezy so perfect weather to be outdoors. There were aircrafts parked on the grounds, exhibition/stunt flights, and some side attractions like bouncy houses for the kids, vendors, etc. It was a great family friendly atmosphere. We later found out that there was a fatal crash later in the day. The pilot was doing a stunt and was unable to recover from a dive due to high winds. Sad and tragic end to what was otherwise an enjoyable event.
