Kingdom Stories: The Seed

Kingdom Stories is the current preaching series at Victory.  This series helps us understand the kingdom of God, based on the parables used by Jesus.  The topics in this series are: The Seed, The Treasure, The Landowner and The Banquet.

THE SEED

Main Verse
Luke 6:38 Het told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.  Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."

Lesson:

The kingdom of heaven in characterized by:

Growth
  • The mustard seed is the smallest seed, yet it grows to be the largest of garden plants.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
  • Small does not mean insignificant.
  • Jesus himself came from a small town and the first disciples he chose were unimpressive men.
  • It is ok to start small.
  • Just like weeds kill the plant, sin hinders growth.
Distinction
  • Exodus 8:23 I will make a distinction between my people and your people.
  • Exodus 9:4 But the LORD will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.'
Influence and Purpose

  • ...so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.
  • Whatever we do, we should make it purposeful.

Main Point:
GREAT THINGS COME FROM SMALL BEGINNINGS.
