Ela at 16 Months

Ela is now 16 months! Her stats from last month's well visit are:
     Height: 2'6" (25th percentile)
     Weight: 18 lbs 15 oz (20th percentile)
She has 8 teeth (4 at the top, and 4 at the bottom).

Thanks, Sally for the picture.

Mobility. She is walking and almost running. It used to be just one directional but she has learned to pivot and change directions halfway. She can also stand from the floor, no more holding on to things to in order to get up. She wasn't walking at 1 y.o. which worried me for a bit but now I see how unfounded it was. Now I miss her wobbly walk when she was just getting started. She can also turn! I saw her do it for the first time when the Gilmore Girls intro song was playing.

Exploring. She likes to open drawers and cabinets AND drop the contents to the floor. She likes to make a mess of her toys and books but when in the mood, she also packs them away.

Talking. She can say more words now and copy new ones more easily.  She said "ba-pa", her version of backpack. She says "baaa!" for bye (in the right tone!) and can say "mama", "papa/dada", "baba" and point to us. We can distinguish her words for ball, blue, spoon, teeth and flower. She can also say "wow" and "uh-oh".=)

Eating. She likes to self-feed using her hands. She has a bib that has the catcher and she likes to use that as a plate.=) She likes fruits - grapes, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, peach and banana.

And we're still on this breastfeeding journey, only at home. I really thought we would be done by now (Neil stopped before he turned one). I'm not complaining though. We'll see how long we can keep going.

Socializing. Neil goes to karate 6 times a week and most of the time, Ela is there, too. We think this constant exposure to other people has helped her be more sociable. She used to not like being near strangers but now, she smiles at them and is generally more interactive. We also started going to the baby room in church. I am volunteering for four consecutive weeks to help her get more familiar with the new environment.

Learning. She was holding the 3D glasses and was attempting to wipe it with the edge of her shirt, obviously copying Rich and me. It was so funny, and it made us realize that she's learning many things by observing us.

We love you, Ela!
