Bohol May 2011: Family+

Before this trip, my last visit to Bohol was in 2003.  There has been a lot of changes, to say the least.  Gone are are the stretches of unutilized land along highway.  In their stead are huge houses and businesses that took advantage of the growth brought by the Island City Mall.  There's still a lot of construction going on, the place will definitely look different in a few more years.

In Dao, everybody used to know everybody (and in most cases related!), but because people from other areas have settled here, that's not the case anymore.  I somehow miss the place from my childhood.  We used to play patintero on the streets at night, play house, mamayabas sa bayabasan(!), walk on top of the school fence going to the plaza, watch the basketball games, etc.

Still, a few things have stayed the same.  First and foremost, Auntie's house.  It looks and feels the same.  The ceiling is newly added but everything else is still how I remembered it.  The same wooden benches at the dining table, cooking using wood, the large tank for rainwater, the yard...

Em caught a firefly on our first night.  We used to see a lot of them by the mahogany trees across Auntie's house.

Another thing that stays the same?  Family.  We visited relatives on our last day before flying back.

Good times.=)
