Thrive: Dead or Alive

Thrive is VCF's opening series for the year.  Thriving is way above surviving.  To thrive is to flourish, be successful, to grow, develop and blossom.  It's a good thing.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
Psalm 1:3

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10b

This week, the series is entitled Dead or Alive -- what it means to be dead to sin and alive in Christ.

We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?  Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.  If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
Romans 6:2-5

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.  For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
Romans 6:8-9

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:11

If we receive Jesus Christ, we also receive the Holy Spirit and by the Holy Spirit, we have the power to live godly lives and not fall into sin.
