Pasikblogan #8: Traffic Reflections

PasikBlogan Challenge #8: Traffic Reflections.  We all experience traffic. On the road or in other areas of our life. What goes on in your mind and heart when you're in traffic?

=================================

I am very lucky to not have to deal with traffic on a regular basis because my workplace is just a stone's throw away from the condo we're renting.  We weighed the cost and benefits of renting this unit and we concluded that the proximity is worth it.  I just walk to the office so the only traffic I deal with regularly is people traffic while navigating the streets of Makati.

But one can never escape traffic in Metro Manila.  Dealing with it is easy if you have someone to converse with.  In my case, it's almost always Rich, the driver.=)  We talk about anything and everything, including some crazy traffic-induced ideas, like how cool it would be if you can hit someone's car and NOT sustain damage IF you are in the right.  That way, everyone would be careful to follow the rules and be nice, no?  More realistically (or not!), if the government gives someone the job of hitting cars whose drivers are violating the rules just to delay or inconvenience them. Hehe, hypothetical lang! The intent is not to hurt but to teach a lesson.

If Neil's in the car with us, we would most likely be singing to his Bible songs cd.  We've memorized all the songs because the player is defective and will not eject the cd inside.  We're really blessed to have a kid who doesn't complain or get agitated with long car rides.  He likes looking out the window, reading the signs and identifying objects.  And if he's tired, he just sleeps.

So, I don't get a lot of reflection time because of traffic.  But if I find myself stuck in a jeep/bus and without a companion, I would most likely be watching out for my own safety, noticing people and being attentive to the surroundings.  (I never tune out like other commuters with their earphones.)  I would also wonder where the other passengers came from and where they are going, hypothesizing about their lives and simply appreciating the fact that we are all in the same journey to different destinations...
