San Diego Sep2011: Team Time!

On these all-team meetings, we don't just sit around and listen to presentations all the time.  We have quite a interactive team activities as well.  These are really good opportunities to meet and catch-up with people.

*** DAY 1 ***

On the first night, we had a quick reception at the hotel before the groups went off to dinner at different restaurants.

Welcome Reception

For our team, dinner was at Bandar Restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter.  It's a multi-awarded Persian restaurant, with numerous plaques decorating the walls.  The servings here are really huge!  It would have taken me three meals to finish everything on my plate.  Even though it was delicious, I had to quit after 3 pieces of the chicken.

Those are regular size spoon and fork.  That plate is huge!

This is the first time for our team to be in one place since February this year so dinner was time for catching up.

Taiwan, India, Philippines and South Korea represented.

***DAY 2***

On the second night, our team activity was at the San Diego Zoo.

We were assigned to different groups this time.  Each of the groups stayed together for the activities which included a bus tour and a guided walking tour with an added task of identifying animals from different clues provided (contest).  I've been to the San Diego Zoo before so it wasn't so big a deal for me that we didn't get time to freely roam and look around.

The cool thing about this day was that we had the place to ourselves after 6PM.  Dinner was also set up at the location, with live entertainment.

The zoo is where adults feel like kids again.=)

***DAY 3***

Third night was all about barbecue at the beach.  We were bussed off to De Anza Cove where food and music were already waiting.  Games were also set up, like Jenga, volleyball, etc.

It got cold in the evening so we congregated around the bonfire where folks were making smores.

I was too cold to care about taking photos.  There isn't one of me in my camera...

***DAY 4***

On Thursday, our team activity was for the benefit of Operation Caregiver.  We always do one charity event at these meetings.  The past three ones were for The Ronald McDonald House, Give Kids the World and Atlanta Humane Society.

Operation Caregiver sends care packages to the US armed forces deployed on the field.  We packed a total of 250+ packages to be shipped on the same day.  We had an assembly line going and it took ~30 minutes to get everything done.

A few members of the military joined us on the day as well.

Thursday evening was the final event - the Awards Dinner.  Here we have sit-down dinner as management hands out awards.  Entertainment for the night was provided by an improv group, Io Theater.

Somebody was awarded a Director's Award!

After the program.

 *********

Contrary to popular belief =), we had presentations, training (Leadership, Time Management), operations and organization updates and work sessions on this meeting as well but the team activities are just more fun to write about. =)
